SOUTH PYMATUNING TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Carol A. Goga, 76, of South Pymatuning Township, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 5, 2014, at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Goga was born Nov. 23, 1937, in Sharon, Pa., the daughter of Leroy and Elaine Bailey Jamieson.
A lifelong area resident, she was raised on the West Hill and was a 1955 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage. Carol was a hard worker and began her first job at Isaly's for 25 cents an hour.
She was later employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where she met her husband, and was an Avon representative.
Carol began her career at Packard Electric Corp. in 1969, and retired in 1999 after 30 years of service. During retirement, she worked at Macy's in the Shenango Valley Mall, Hermitage.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hermitage. Years earlier, she was a Democratic committee woman.
Carol's family was her main focus in life. She was involved in the activities of her children, such as teaching Sunday school, Girl Scouts and PTO. She was a staunch supporter of all of their activities throughout their school years. Her involvement carried over to her grandchildren's lives, never missing a chance to be a supporter.
She was always available to lend a hand, and was the first person anyone in the family could call for help and advice. She had a love for people, especially children.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting and shopping. One of her favorite places to visit locally was Buhl Park. In her later years, she visited the park daily, enjoying the swans on the lake and the children playing.
Carol was known for her funny, quirky sense of humor, and an easy smile and compliment. She always saw the good in people.
Her husband, John A. Goga, whom she married March 21, 1959, in the former Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farrell, Pa., passed away April 8, 2010.
Surviving are three children, Leslie E. Griffin of Transfer, Pa., John G. Goga of Temecula, Calif., and Kelly A. Goga of Orlando, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Marshall, Holly and Marissa Jovenall, Ian Scott, and Cory, Clay and Cassidy Goga; and a great-grandson, Noah.
Besides her husband, Carol was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Judy Rotunno; and a brother, Allen Jamieson.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10001.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 1090 E. State St., Sharon, with the Rev. Kenneth Martin, pastor of the First Assembly of God, Hermitage, officiating.
