CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Panna Lagos Arkis, 88, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Warren, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Panna was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Warren, the daughter of Steve and Sylvia Lagos.
A lifelong resident of Warren, she moved to Charlotte at the age of 84 to be close to family.
She was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and worked at Warren General Hospital for 26 years. She retired in 1986 as director of human resources.
In retirement, Panna and Nick enjoyed their winter home in Florida as well as wonderful travels with family and friends.
Panna is survived by her daughter, Linda (Daniel) Larrick of Charlotte, N.C., and her son, Peter (Nancy) Arkis of Parker, Colo. She is also survived by five loving grandchildren, Benjamin (Brandy) Larrick, Andrea (Jason) Wilhelm, Nicholas Arkis, Andrew Arkis and Kristen Arkis; and one great-grandson, Wyatt D. Larrick. Additional survivors include her sister, Bess (John) Johnson of Tampa, Fla., and her sister-in-law, Anne Lagos of Philadelphia; as well as loving nieces and nephews, Lynn Bloch, Vanessa Drain, Dee Jarmillo, Barbara Lagos, Steven Lagos, John Lagos and Ann King; and many extended family members.
Panna's love of people and enthusiasm for life will be sadly missed by her family and dear friends.
Panna was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas P. Arkis. Their beautiful, loving and devoted marriage of 60 years was an inspiration to family and friends.
Her sister, Mary Lagos; brother, Michael S. Lagos; sister-in-law, Irene; and brother-in-law, James Matz, preceded her in death as well.
Services will be held privately for the family, and she will be interred next to her husband in Warren. The family requests that memorials be made in the form of donations to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren.
