WARREN - Paul B. Smith, 91, of Warren, passed away at 1:48 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, in the emergency room of Trumbull Memorial Hospital with his daughter by his side.
Paul was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Warren, the son of the late Frank and Mary Stacko Guzek Smith.
He was of the Catholic faith and a member of Blessed John Paul II Parish in Warren. Following many years of service, he retired from Thomas Steel.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Paul served his country during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
He is survived by a daughter, Paula M. Smith of Girard; a sister, Helen M. (Maynard) Balling of Cortland; nieces, Joanne Hazel of Cortland and Maire Voye of Denton, Texas; and a nephew, John Balling of Kimberly, Idaho.
Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death on Oct. 5, 2003, by his wife, Veronica Mary Petiya Smith, whom he married July 30, 1949; a brother, William Smith; and a nephew, Senior Airman Mark Balling.
Calling hours will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Fr. Christopher Henyk officiating.
Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
