One week a year, the masterpieces in the permanent collection of the Butler Institute of American Art come down to make room for the annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Show.
And that show helps makes it possible for the museum to be open free of charge the other 51 weeks of the year.
About 100 vendors from several states will be set up on both floors of the museum displaying and selling pottery, fiber art, holiday decor, paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, jewelry, toys, cards, wearable art and other items.
Both the Fine Art Sales Gallery and the Museum Gift Shop will be open for holiday shoppers, and refreshments will be available in Collections Cafe.
Those attending Sunday can get free fine art appraisals by Cleveland's Bonfoey Company and free antique / collectible appraisals by Youngstown's Byce Auction from 1 to 3 p.m. There is a limit of two hand-carried items per person.
Entertainment will be featured both days.
The 43rd Holiday Arts and Crafts Show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Butler, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Admission is $5 with children ages 12 and younger admitted free.
