LAKE SUZY, Fla. - Donald Michael Lawruk, 75, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013.
He was born Nov. 20, 1937, to his late parents Magdaline Gurna and Antony Lawruk in Altoona, Pa.
He spent most of his career as an automotive tool and die maker. In 1997, he retired from General Motors Lordstown, Ohio, Plant. Don was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in North Port, Fla. He loved living in Florida, playing golf, woodworking and helping his church and friends. Mostly, though, he loved his family.
He will be deeply missed.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara A. DeSoto; daughter, Rebecca A. Blackson of Cortland; son, Michael A. Lawruk of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Samantha L. Gullett of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Christina R. Poschner of Austintown; seven beloved grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He also leaves behind brothers Walter, Maurice and Adam Lawruk; and sisters Olga Romerowicz, Jennie Cramer and Alice Hanna.
Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Moore; and his brothers, Joseph and Raymond Lawruk.
Visitation will be held 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Farley Funeral Home in North Port with a Panachyda service to follow.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, followed by interment in Venice Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made in his memory to St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1078 N. Biscayne Drive, North Port, FL 34287.
