CORTLAND - The Cortland Community Band is marking its 30th anniversary and will hold a special concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Lakeview High School auditorium.
The band under the direction of Craig Wiencik. Band manager Lyle Thompson has been practicing weekly for the special event.
Janice Hill, a member and other event organizers, said that former band members and current members will perform together for the special event.
Musicians that have played with the band over the past years but are not active members will join on stage for the performance. There are members throughout the county.
Hill said Wiencek will lead the band as the band performs a variety of music from marches to the big band sound, with a classical piece or two thrown in. The original conductor, Roger Harned, will also lead the band once again for a few selected pieces.
Dixieland Band will be performing as will be the Lakeview High School band to join the celebration.
Donations will be taken at the door and will be presented to the Lakeview music program.
The band meets from 7 to 9 p.m. each Wednesday at Cortland Middle School during the school year and at the Lake Vista Clubhouse during the summer months.
The band entertains at many events throughout the years including Relay For Life, summer concerts, nursing homes during Christmas to entertain the residents and holiday concerts at the Eastwood Mall.
The band is open to all ages. No auditions are necessary.
