FRIENDS PLAN SALE: The Friends of the McKinley Memorial Library will host a book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, which is $2 per bag sale at the library, 40 N. Main St., Niles. A preview for the Friends only will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Donations will be accepted through Friday at the library. HARTFORD SCOUTS HOLD FLAG CEREMONY: The Boy Scouts of Hartford Troop 90 will conduct a formal U.S. flag retirement ceremony at 7 p.m. today at the Hartford Community Center, state Routes 7 and 305. Anyone with an old, faded torn, dirty or unusable flag can bring it to the ceremony.
HUBBARD STUDENTS HOLDS FUNDRAISER: The Hubbard High School National Honors Society is doing a fundraiser for a very special cause. One of the member's cousin, Alyssa Wyatt, was a victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut. The club plans to hand out goldfish crackers while accepting donations at various locations around Hubbard from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. There will be booths stationed at Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Shop n' Save, and Save A Lot in Hubbard. All of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Alyssa Wyatt Memorial Fund. From there the memorial fund will distribute the money to charities around Sandy Hook.
WEEK WITHOUT VIOLENCE: In recognition of YWCA Week Without Violence today through Sunday, the YWCA of Youngstown and C.I.R.V. Youngstown will present a free talk on Nonviolence Week in Ohio at 5 p.m. today at the YWCA of Youngstown with guest speaker, Penny Wells
BLOCKWATCH TO MEET: Girard Second Ward blockwatch will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Girard Free Library. A representative of the Girard Police Department will speak.
PHOTOS SOUGHT: The Brookfield Township Historical Society is looking for photos of the former Addison School. The group will participate at Safety Night on Oct. 23. The next meeting is 7 p.m. Wednesday at the township administration building.
