Car collides with Hubbard school van
LIBERTY - The Ohio State Patrol is investigating a crash involving a Hubbard Schools transportation van and another vehicle Tuesday morning.
Reports state that a car collided with the school van about 8:30 a.m. as it was attempting to turn onto Mosier Road from East Liberty Street in Liberty.
No students were involved, reports state. The driver and an aide were riding in the van. No injuries were reported.
No foul play suspected in woman's fire death
YOUNGSTOWN - Foul play is not suspected in the death of an elderly woman killed in a fire Saturday.
The Mahoning County Coroner's Office reported that the remains of 77-year-old Kathleen Pasco of 1619 Homewood Ave. show that she died within minutes of the fire's onset and that there was no "inflicted trauma" found on the body.
Medical examiner Dr. Joseph Ohr noted that Pasco's remains also "demonstrated classic stigmata of smoke inhalation," according a news release issued by the coroner's office on Tuesday.
The Youngstown Fire Department was called out to the home by Life Alert around 3:30 a.m. Firefighters found Pasco dead in the front room of the house near the Interstate 680 / Indianola Avenue interchange, reports state.
The room had sustained heavy fire damage. The coroner's office reported that Pasco suffered from chronic lung ailments requiring home oxygen. However, the fire remains under investigation. Toxicology results are pending.
Crews called to separate Howland crashes
HOWLAND - Emergency crews were called out for back-to-back crashes on Tuesday.
At least one person was transported to a local hospital by ambulance following the first crash about 2:30 p.m. at Willow Brook Drive and Reeves Road N.E.
Three vehicles were involved in the second crash about 3 p.m. at East Market Street and Howland Wilson Road N.E. One of the vehicles was smoking, a 911 supervisor confirmed.
No other information about either crash or possible injuries was available Tuesday.
Warren woman reports robbery on Market St.
WARREN - City police were called to investigate a robbery reported by a Nevada Avenue woman on Monday.
Martha A. Hurt, 55, told officers she was walking on West Market Street about 1:30 p.m. when someone approached her and stole $300 from her, according to a Warren police report. The report states that Hurt told police the person, whom she said she did not know, then fled.
There was no indication on the report that Hurt was hurt.
Woman chokes on food at Taste of Home show
WARREN - An 86-year old woman was taken from the Taste of Home cooking program by ambulance after choking on her food Tuesday evening at Packard Music Hall.
Several medical personnel in the audience rushed to the aid of Catherine Grant of Johnston after she choked on a meatball. After being given the Heimlich maneuver, she was alert and talking.
She was taken to an area hospital as a precaution. Her son, Clifford Grant, who was attending the show with her, said she was doing well. "Just tell everyone I said blessings," he said.
Eric Villegas, of PBS's ''Fork in the Road,'' who gave cooking demonstrations at the show, informed the crowd of Grant's condition and set aside a recipe box for her.
Transit board to meet today at county offices
WARREN - The Trumbull County Transit Board will meet at 3 p.m. today at the county commissioners' office on the fifth floor of the County Administration Building, 160 High St. N.W., Warren.
