Sat 9:53pm: Woman dies in Youngstown fire

YOUNGSTOWN -- A fire early today claimed the life of a Youngstown woman.

The Youngstown Fire Department responded to a fire at 3:30 a.m. at 1619 Homewood Avenue after being notified of the fire by Life Alert.

Firefighters found the elderly victim dead in the front room of the house near the Interstate 680-Indianola interchange, Tribune Chronicle newspartner WYTV 33 News. The room had sustained heavy fire damage.

The victim used oxygen, but it is unclear if it was in use at the time of the fire. An investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
