RIVA, Md. - Robert L. Loughhead, 84, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, in Annapolis, Md.
He was born Sept. 11, 1929, in Beaver, Pa.
Robert had a distinguished career in the steel industry. He was president of Jessop Steel Co.; president of Copperweld Steel Co.; and president, CEO and chairman of Weirton Steel Co., where he oversaw the creation of the largest employee stock ownership plan ever undertaken at a time. Robert also was a partner in 3DAdvisors, an institutional equity research form.
He graduated from Geneva College and was a certified public accountant and Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award judge.
Robert was a world traveler, avid sailor and accomplished marine navigator. He was active in multiple service organizations.
Robert is survived by a son, Charles Loughhead of New York; a daughter, Cynthia Lopata of Wynnewood, Pa.; a grandson, Willis Loughhead of New York; and a granddaughter, Ada Gillis of St. Charles, Ill.
He was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve Vlasic, in 2006.
No memorial services are planned at this time.
