WARREN - This week the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its Bookmobile service.
Today, the "library on wheels" makes more than 100 stops every three weeks around Trumbull County. A driver and a library specialist are on board every weekday visiting housing complexes, preschool centers and rural neighborhoods, said Cheryl Bush, public relations manager for the library.
The Bookmobile is a full-service library carrying adult, teen, and children's books, audiobooks, music CDs and DVDs.
The bus holds approximately 3,500 items, and 197,743 items were checked out by 19,437 Bookmobile patrons in 2012, according to the library.
There will be free public events to mark the anniversary:
Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Bookmobile will be parked outside the Main library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren, and will be open for tours. Bookmobile scrapbooks will be on display. A free bubble show for children will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the library. Anniversary cake and punch will be served at 1:30 p.m., also inside the library.
Oct. 5, the Bookmobile will be open for tours in the parking lot at the Cortland Branch Library, 578 Lakeview Drive, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.; at the Howland Branch Library, 9095 E. Market S., from 11 a.m. to noon.; and at the Liberty Branch Library, 415 Churchill-Hubbard Road, from 1 to 3 p.m., where it will be the featured vehicle in a free Touch-A-Truck event for children.
