RILEY -- Erwin Kuhns Jr., 51, of Middlefield, was pronounced dead at the scene and Paul Snoff, 73, of Warren and David Kuhns, 18, of Middlefield, were taken to Freemont Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries following a five-vehicle crash Tuesday on the Ohio Turnpike in Sandusky County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a semi smashed into the rear of another semi that had slowed down through a construction site. That set off a chain reaction that included two vehicles in front of the semis.
Snoff then drove his Ford F-150 into the back of the pileup, according to troppers with the OHP's Milan post. The Kuhns were passengers in Snoff's truck.
Two others were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Traffic became backed up for almost six hours while rescue crews cleared the scene, troopers said.
