GUSTAVUS - Frederick G. Smith, 91, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles.
He was born Aug. 21, 1922, in Greene Township, the son of Charles A. and Catherine Crouch Smith.
A lifelong area resident, Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in France and Germany during World War II. He was employed by ABF Freight Line in Little Rock, Ark., and also Daniels Motor Freight in Warren. Mr. Smith was a member of Teamsters Local 377 in Youngstown and Harry Lees American Legion Post 506 in Kinsman. He was an avid fisherman and loved old Western movies.

He is survived by two daughters, Sandra S. (Roland) Wildman of Gustavus and Cindy (Kirk) Hutchens of Conneaut; one daughter-in-law, Sammy Smith of Currituck, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Smith of Vienna; and two brothers, Gene A. Smith of Kinsman and Earl E. Smith of Gustavus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie Postlethwait Smith; his son, Frederick James Smith; five sisters, Evelyn Meister, Mary Tretera, Arlene Brownlee, Helen Herbert and Dorothy Stevens; and three brothers, Robert L. Smith, Emerson L. Smith and Charles Smith Sr.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Jim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Gustavus Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
