NILES - Ira G. Malvasi, 83, of Niles, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Washington Hospital surrounded by her family.
Born March 31, 1930, in Butler, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Marie L. Streitman Bowser.
Ira graduated from Mount Aloysuis Junior College. Ira moved to the Youngstown area after school and worked first as a butcher for the A&P Grocery Store. She then worked in the steel mill and later became a real estate agent for Century 21 Stauffer Realty.
Most of all, she was a homemaker, mother and grandmother who was a great teacher to her children and grandchildren.
She dedicated her life to teaching and caring for them.
Ira enjoyed knitting, reading, watching movies and playing cards on the computer. Her favorite hobby was sewing. She was an excellent seamstress.
She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
She was the beloved mother of Dr. Mark G. Malvasi of Midlothian, Va., Martina Malvasi (Bryan) Haines of Slippery Rock, Pa., and Maurus "Pete" (Denise) Malvasi of Girard; dear grandmother of Benjamin J. (Christina) Nicholas, Alessandra L. Nicholas, Nathan M. Nicholas, Nicholas G. Malvasi, Maura M. Malvasi and Sarah M. Malvasi; and aunt to several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Joseph A. Malvasi.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 381 Robbins Ave., Niles, OH 44446.
Inurnment will take place in the St. Stephen's Cemetery, Niles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hope Center of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish.
