CAVE CREEK, Ariz. - Wayne William Hennacy Jr., 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at his beloved desert home eight weeks after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
Wayne was born in March of 1929 in Sharon, Pa., the son of Wayne Sr. and Thelma Hennacy.
He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1945. On Sept. 8, 1951, he married Edith Reihard of Champion.
Wayne "Bill" served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War, with the rank of corporal.
The family moved to Arizona in 1963 and then moved to Cave Creek in 1973. Wayne was a dedicated family man, and during retirement he and Edie traveled across the country to visit their children.
He attended trade school for four years and graduated as a journeyman in sheet metal. Wayne was a proud member of local Union 359 for nearly 60 years and retired in 1991.
Wayne and Edie had three children, Wayne "Will," Rhonda and Colleen; and two grandchildren, Shane and Erin.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Alene.
A private celebration of life for family was held Aug. 24 at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary. A military interment for Wayne will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
A public celebration of Wayne's life will be held at a later date.
Inurnment will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix.
