ASHTABULA - Evelyn M. Taft, 87, of East 26th Street, Ashtabula, and formerly of Jefferson, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Country Club Retirement Center.
She was born March 9, 1926, in Andover, the daughter of Melvin and Louise Cobb Eastlake.
Evelyn worked for the Jefferson High School as a cafeteria supervisor for more than 30 years before retiring.
She enjoyed bowling, camping, playing cards, shuffleboard and needlepoint. She was a snowbird and enjoyed spending her winter months in Florida. However, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl K. (Willie) Meardith of Orlando, Fla., Roberta L. Young of Roanoke, Va., Linda L. (Robert) Langston of Goshen, Richard R. (Debra Druhot) Taft of North Port, Fla., Robert C. (Ann) Taft of Jefferson and Carla R. Sires of Everett, Wash.; a sister, Marrietta (Gordon) Totten of Cortland; a brother, Charles Eastlake of Chugiak, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl R. Taft in 1995; and five siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson Church of the Nazarene, 55 E. Satin St., Jefferson, with Pastor Shirley Deemer officiating. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery in Jefferson.
