NILES - Irene Wilma Toth, 92, of Shadowridge Drive, passed away peacefully at 2:25 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Niles following a short illness.
Irene was born April 16, 1921, in Duquesne, Pa., the daughter of Joseph and Marie Petrovits Kolozsi.
Irene was know by many as "Ike" and had previously lived on Anderson Morris Road, Niles, and for 15 years in Florida.
Before her retirement in 1978, Irene was employed in the meat department of Fisher Fazio Foods.
A 1939 graduate of Braceville High School, she played high-school basketball, enjoyed walking, was an active member of the South Side Presbyterian Church and the ladies auxiliary, and cherished family activities.
Irene is survived by a daughter, Jolane (Robert) Penksa; granddaughter, Melanie Penksa; and two grandsons, Matthew Penksa and Marcus Penksa, all of Niles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wallace Toth, whom she married Nov. 12, 1945, and who died March 5, 2006; a son, Robert Toth; three sisters, Goldie Pirigyi Kish, Bertha Engle and Margaret Haynie; and a brother, Leslie Kovacs.
At her request, there are no calling hours or funeral services. A private burial will be in Braceville Township Cemetery.
