NILES - Two men accused of trying to steal a truck from a local concrete business late Thursday were foiled by standard transmission, police said.
Witnesses told police they saw the pair driving the truck from Marchese Concrete on Mason Street, but that the vehicle was barely moving down Pratt Street and the driver was grinding gears.
Niles police said they caught Rahan A. Jenkins, 20, of Jackson Street, Warren, and Clemice Thomas Jr., 18, of Niles, after a foot chase about 10:30 p.m. after the truck was abandoned.
Both men were arrested on charges of vehicle theft and breaking and entering. They were being held at the Trumbull County Jail on Friday in lieu of $7,500 bond.
According to information posted on the Niles Police Department's Facebook page, the "two occupants abandoned the truck on Walnut Street and fled on foot."
The notice states that one suspect was apprehended by a Niles officer and the second was apprehended with help from a Warren Police K9.
"Life lesson: don't steal, but if you are going to try to steal a truck with a manual transmission, make sure you can drive stick," the Facebook post states.
