BROOKFIELD - Frederick G. "Jerry" Thomas, Sr., 77, formerly of Cortland, died at 10:04 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.
He was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Curtisville, Pa., the son of James C. and Mary Sample Thomas.
Mr. Thomas retired in 1998 from Marathon Oil after more than 10 years of service as a truck driver.

Jerry was a member of Cortland Church of the Nazarene, where he served as a trustee. His joy was taking care of the church building and grounds.
Survivors include his wife, the former Carolyn Settle, whom he married on Jan. 27, 1968; his children, James J. (Karen) Thomas of Kinsman, Frederick G. (Alicia) Thomas Jr. of Cortland, Sally (Todd) Sapp of Kinsman and Carrie J. Thomas of Kinsman; 10 grandchildren, Rachael (Victor) Roden, Crysta Thomas, Jamie (Jason) Seidle, Rochelle, Allison and Carly Thomas, Travis Sapp, Mathew Fenton, Meghan Thomas, and Kimberly Tyborowski; and four great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews survive.
Also surviving are his sister, Saundra "Sauni" Shafer of Cortland; his sister-in-law, Rosann Thomas of Cortland; and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Boring of Mineral Ridge.
Other than his parents, Frederick was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Thomas; his sister, Arettia "Sis" Boring, and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cortland Church of the Nazarene, where Pastor Fred Blauser will celebrate Fred's life.
Family and friends may gather at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday.
