NEWTON FALLS - With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Stephen D. Georgalas, 70, a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, who died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at his residence with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Steve was a kind, gentle, humble man, respected by all who knew him.
Steve was born July 28, 1942, the son of Steve Georgalas and Doris Early.
Steve attended Warren G. Harding High School. He then went on to become a fireman in the U.S. Air Force, spending four of his most talked about years stationed in Hawaii. Steve then became a professional firefighter for the City of Warren for 28 years, where he made lifelong friends with some of the most courageous and devoted men that he talked so highly about. Steve was also a member of First Christian Church in Newton Falls and the Newton Falls Amvets.
Steve enjoyed playing softball, fishing, golfing (Steve shot a hole-in-one while playing in Hawaii), doing puzzles, watching the deer outside of his house, spending time with his dogs and especially entertaining his grandchildren.
Steve will always be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margo; a daughter, Jeannette of Niles, and a son, Steven of Newton Falls; and grandchildren - to whom he was "Papa" - Brittany, Stephanie, Jacob, Natalie, Courtnie and Olivia; great-grandchildren, Anthony and Joey; and siblings, Alex (Irene) of Niles, Tom (Stella) of Wellsville, Jeanie (Tom) of Warren and Ellen of Cortland.
Besides his parents, Steve was predeceased by his brothers, Edward Georgalas and Robert "Tiny" Ellis; and granddaughter, Alyssa Georgalas.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Hemrock, oncologist, and the wonderful staff at the Hope Center for Cancer Care in Warren and the Cleveland Clinic for their compassionate care.
There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place per Steve's wishes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to First Christian Church, 17 N. Center St., Newton Falls. The family of Steve Georgalas also wishes to thank Chuck and Irene Bayley for helping our family through this hard time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to James Funeral Home, 8 E. Broad St., Newton Falls, OH 44444, 330-872-5440.
