Fri., 11:09am: School district won’t host controversial Constitution course

SPRINGBORO -- A southwest Ohio school district has abandoned its plans to host courses for staff and parents on the U.S. Constitution that critics complained are religiously oriented.

The Dayton Daily News reports that the Springboro school board had planned to offer the adult courses amid discussions of introducing creationism into the curriculum for pupils. Board members said Thursday they would take more time to consider community concerns.

The courses - put on by the Institute on the Constitution and the National Center for Constitutional Studies - have been criticized as ``tea-party leaning.''

The board attracted attention this year when it floated a proposal to add creationism and other ``controversial issues'' to the curriculum. That proposal was tabled last month amid protests from some parents and civil rights groups.
