CORTLAND - Virginia N. Sando, 89, of Lake Vista, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Vibra Hospital in Warren following a brief illness.
She was born May 7, 1924, in Westerville, the daughter of the late Wilfred Lyndon and Olive Kent Crooks.
She had resided in Cortland since 1953.
A loving homemaker, wife and mother, Mrs. Sando was a member of Cortland United Methodist Church. She once was a Red Cross volunteer at Trumbull Memorial Hospital; was in the Order of Eastern Star; and was active in CCL and the Lakeview Band Boosters. Virginia enjoyed sewing, crafts, cleaning the house, baking pies and her grandchildren, and she was an avid sports fan.
Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Crow and Mrs. David (Robin) Mead; four grandchildren, Sandra Crow Mealy, Charlene Crow Theis, Joshua Mead and Rebecca Mead Castle; and five great-grandchildren.
Other than her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sando; and her two brothers, Kent and Wilfred "Bill" Crooks.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cortland United Methodist Church, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. The Rev. David Vensel will celebrate Virginia's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services Foundation or to the Cortland United Methodist Church.
All arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, in Cortland.
