WARREN - Shirley Jane Snelson, 87, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at the Autumn Hills Care Center.
She was born March 6, 1926, in New Haven, Conn., the daughter of Louis and Jenny Crocker.
After graduation from local schools, she attended the nursing school at Norwalk General Hospital in Norwalk, Conn., where she received her RN nursing degree.
In 1950, she married Thomas Snelson and moved to Burlington, Vt., with him while he finished his senior year at the University of Vermont. During that time she received her PHT degree from the university.
Upon graduation, they moved to Montreal, Canada, where they lived for 10 years. During this period, three of their four children were born, daughters Anne and Janet and son Rob.
A transfer to New York brought her back to Norwalk, Conn., where their fourth child, Kim, was born. In 1963 another transfer brought her to Cleveland and Warren, where she remained until her husband's retirement in 1985.
In 1986 she and her husband started a public relations firm in which she was vice president and secretary for more than 20 years.
She was a wonderful wife and mother and an excellent hostess whose reputation was known in many parts of the world.

Among her many accomplishments was president of the women's fellowship at the First Congregational Church on the Green in Norwalk, Conn. She also held the position at Hope Ridge Church in Mentor and Howland Community Church in Howland. She found time to be a Girl Scouts leader and a Boy Scouts den mother.
One of her passions was the continuing education of women. She fostered this passion by joining the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations and became president of the Warren chapter.
She was an avid reader, loved to travel and enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her summer cottage on Millsite Lake in the Thousand Island area of New York.
Her pride and joy was the fact that her three children were happily married, successful in their professional careers and had blessed her with six grandchildren, Alison, Lindsey, Matthew, Katherine, Joshua and Taylor, and two great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Kate, whose love and affection were a constant and wonderful joy to her.
She was married to her husband, Tom, for 63 years.
She is survived by her husband, Tom; daughters Anne (Ronald) Frattare and Janet (Stephen) Sweet; son Rob (Kristy) Snelson; grandchildren Alison (Joshua) Bartlett, Lindsey (Weston) Davis, Katherine, Matthew and Joshua Snelson and Taylor Sweet; and great-grandchildren Maxwell and Kate Barlett.
