AKRON -- David Martin, scheduled to stand trial in January for murder in Warren, was found guilty in federal court in Akron Wednesday on a charge of a felon illegally in possession of a firearm.
Martin, 28, is accused of killing Jeremy Cole, 21, who was shot to death while tied up in a home on Warren's southwest side.
Cole was shot in the head, and Melissa Putnam was shot in the hand. The bullet traveled through her hand into her neck, and she spent several days in the hospital.
Martin was among the 97 people indicted as part of a major drug sweep in April. The sweep was focused in Warren. Martin was charged with distributing oxycodone and heroin and possessing a Norinco SKS rifle, despite having a previous felony conviction.
