AUSTINTOWN - More than 580 vehicles passed through an OVI checkpoint this weekend and a dozen vehicles were stopped by a saturation patrol that resulted in two arrests, five summons for various reasons and one arrest on a felony warrant.
The operation was conducted from 11 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. today on Mahoning Avenue at Howard Avenue by 13 officers from several participating organizations.
"Motorists need to understand that law enforcement is committed to enforcing the drinking and driving laws in Mahoning County. People planning on consuming alcohol make make arrangements to get home safely," said Canfield assistant Chief Scott Weamer.
The Mahoning County OVI Task Force is funded by a federal grant administered through the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
