JUNETEENTH TO BE MARKED: The 12th annual Community Concerned Citizens II Juneteenth Celebration will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Perkins Park Pavilion 2 in Warren. The event will include deejay music, bounce house, corn hole tournament, talent show and picnic.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in Texas. Black Independence Day was marked on June 19, 1865.
GROUP TO WORK ON CEMETERY: The Vienna Historical Society will hold a restoration and preservation day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, with those participating to meet at the south entrance of the Vienna Township Cemetery. This is the first of three cemetery restoration days.
Those attending are asked to bring garden gloves, garden shears, and milk jugs containing water to wash down the grave stones. Bottled water will be provided.
ORGANIZATION CHANGES NAME: The Friends of the Mosquito Lake State Park Inc. is a new group that has replaced the former Friends of the Mosquito Lake State Park Campgrounds. The new group will address the needs of the entire park including the campgrounds. The new group is not holding a "Let's Go Camping" raffle at the fairgrounds. Various events will be planned by the group during the year.
FUNDRAISER TO HELP MAN: A cornhole tournament fundraiser to benefit "Jeff's Cause" is being planned for 2 p.m. June 22 at McDonald High School football field, 600 Iowa Ave. Prizes will be awarded. Deadline to register is Friday.
Jeff Joseph suffered a stroke a few years ago and due to his condition, he needs a kidney transplant. The proceeds will go toward the cost of this procedure.

LIFEGUARD CLASSES HELD: Niles city will hold Red Cross lifeguard certification or recertification classes in preparation for the opening of the Niles Municipal Pool. The pre-test for the classes will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Hubbard Community Pool, 200 Hall Ave. S.E. There is no charge for the pre-test.
Qualified individuals will then be required to complete 25 hours of lifeguard of lifeguard instruction classes to be announced at a later date. To register for the pre-test or for more information, call Jean at 330-979-4146. The Niles Municipal Pool is in need of lifeguards to work June, July and half of August.
