Everyone is for life whether they realize it or not. Our parents voted for life by deciding to have us. We all can therefore rejoice that the horrendous Roe v. Wade decision is on its last breaths of life.
Justices Roberts, Thomas, Alito, Scalia and Kennedy will vote to overturn this law and give the decision back to individual states. It would not be at all surprising if an intelligent Latina did not join the majority opinion, especially if she were given the honor of writing the majority opinion. Once the freedom of choice is given to the states it is certain that Kansas, Ole Miss, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Arizona, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma will outlaw abortion except when the mother's life is at risk. There is no longer any need for violent protest. The deed is all but done.
What will we do with the new baby boom? The authors of the book "Freakanomics" predict that a new wave of crimes against property will occur because a large number of poor people whose only means of support is criminal activity will be coming of age in 16 years. One can counter this pessimistic viewpoint with the observation that the baby boom generation is in its middle 60s and has no intention of dying, ever. The added population of late teens and early 20 year olds could be gainfully employed helping grandma and grandpa attend to their activities of daily living. The army of young adults can bring much needed vigor to a country that still stands as the hope for freedom and democracy in the world.
What if President Obama's mother had chosen to abort her child? We would never get the privilege of seeing Sasha Obama inaugurated as the first black woman president of the United States.
