YOUNGSTOWN - Thomas J. Thornton, 83, formerly of Brownlee Woods, passed away early Monday morning, May 27, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
He was born in 1929, in Cornamona, County Galway in Ireland, a son of Michael and Bridget Carney Thornton.
After retirement from the East Ohio Gas Co. as a supervisor, Tom owned a family business.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.
He was a member of St. Angela Merici Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Youngstown.
Survivors include a son, James of Youngstown; a sister, Kathleen Staunton of County Meath, Ireland; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Dorothy T. O'Hara; two sons, Bryan and Michael; a sister and a brother.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown. Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Angela Merici Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Youngstown.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
