NILES - A national trade magazine has spotlighted a local shopping center magnate as a real estate icon.
Real Estate Forum magazine named Anthony Cafaro Sr. as an icon of the commercial real estate industry in its May edition. Cafaro, the retired president of Youngstown's Cafaro Company, is among two dozen retail professionals featured.
Cafaro Company in 1969 developed Eastwood Mall and still operates the complex, among dozens of other retail centers nationwide.
The magazine notes "with careers in the sector that span as long as a half century and a variety of pathways that have brought them up through the ranks, each of the mencan claim impeccable bona fides in commercial real estate."
Cafaro served as president from 1982 until his retirement in 2009, but remains as a company consultant.
"After working in the shopping center industry for so many years, I am indeed gratified to receive this very prestigious recognition," Cafaro said.
The Cafaro Company is among the nation's largest privately held shopping center developers. The company owns and operates more than 30 million square feet of retail space nationwide. Founded by the late William M. Cafaro in the 1940s, the family-operated business is now run by Cafaro's sons, co-presidents William and Anthony Jr.
