MINERAL RIDGE - Brent Wolf, 70, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born Sept. 18, 1942, in Youngstown, the son of William F. and Louise E. Fiess Wolf.
Brent was a 1960 graduate of Liberty High School. After high school he went on to get his bachelor of science from Youngstown State in 1964. After graduating from YSU, he went on to Kent, where he earned his master's in special education in 1969 and eventually his doctorate of philosophy in 1985.
He was a special-education teacher for Warren City Schools from 1964 to 1968, the OWE teacher coordinator for Warren City Schools from 1968 to 1973, and the teacher educator and professor for special needs at KSU from 1973 until his retirement as professor emeritus in 1993. Brent went on to continue to serve in various roles in education after his retirement, including as the coordinator for YETC/PAT from 1994 to 2000.
Brent received numerous awards throughout his career including the President's Award for Lifetime Achievement on behalf of career-based intervention students in Ohio, was recognized by the Ohio House of Representatives 120th General Assembly for an exemplary record of personal and professional achievement at KSU, and has had numerous articles published in professional journals and made many presentations at various conferences.
He served in various leadership roles in Lutheran churches throughout the Mahoning Valley including Sunday school superintendent of Immanuel Lutheran Church as well as parish education chairman and Sunday school teacher.
Brent enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking and fishing, but more importantly spending time his with family.
He will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Shannon (Sean) Miller of Liberty and Melinda (Fred) Coss of Poland; his son, Christopher Wolf of Mineral Ridge; and four grandchildren, Brent Alan-Christopher Miller and Stephen, Lauren and Kevin Coss.
Besides his parents, Brent was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kathryn Martin Wolf, whom he married May 30, 1964.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, where friends will be received from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
