NEW CASTLE -- Police this morning filed second degree manslaughter of a law enforcement officer and a host of other charges against Kylee Barletto, 25, of New Castle, following a fatal, high-speed chase Thursday night.
Around 10 p.m. New Castle police spotted a car driving erratically and gave chase until the driver, 26-year-old Barletto, crashed into a Shenango police car at Cascade Street and Warren Avenue. Shenango officer Jerry McCarthy IV, 60, was killed. Shenango officer Michael Lynch, 35, is in serious condition at Jameson Hospital. The Shenango officers were looking for the chase to assist New Castle police.
Barletto is in St. Elizabeth Health Center with facial lacerations and head injuries.
Other charges against Barletto include homicide by vehicle, fleeing or attempting to elude police officers, accident involving death or injury, involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person, two counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, four stop sign violations, careless driving and reckless driving charges.
