YOUNGSTOWN - A 56-year-old Knapp Street man was sentenced to 11 years in prison today for the August 2011 death of his wife.

Daniel Wellington had his sentenced handed down by Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge Maureen Sweeney on the charge of involuntary manslaughter, which he pleaded guilty to last month.

Wellington was charged with strangling his wife, 44-year-old Doris Wellington, during an argument inside their home.

Wellington told police he and his wife were arguing about 1:10 a.m. Aug. 5 and that she jumped on him while he was on the bed. He told police he grabbed her as she grabbed him from behind and they rolled off the bed. Wellington said in a police report that his wife's head hit a table.

When officers arrived, Wellington was trying to revive his wife but was unable to do so.
