Thu 11:27 a.m.: VIP returns to Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN - The police department is bringing back the Violence Interdiction Program in an effort to crack down on violent crime.

The department will be holding a press conference at 2 p.m. today to announce the return of the program, which was also run last year with help from several agencies, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mahoning County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Marshals.

Under the program, extra police patrol high crime areas and also look for persons who have a record of committing crimes with guns.
