HERMITAGE, Pa. - Benjamin "Bennie" F. Porter Jr., 79, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Sharon Regional Hospital.
He was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Sharon, Pa., the son of Benjamin and Utha Belle Porter Sr.
Mr. Porter was the owner and operator of Porter's Barber Shop and a member of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of Ruth AME Zion Church.
Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Culp Porter; two daughters, Jacqueline J. Cruz and Phyllis White; a son, Benjamin III; five grandsons, whom he raised, Jeffrey T., Marcus A. Horvath, Julio Cruz Jr., Rico Cruz and Terrence W. White; two granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Francina Jackson of Youngstown.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Porter will be held at noon today at Valley Baptist Church, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
