FAREWELL CELEBRATION FOR SCHOOL: Lloyd Elementary School, 5705 Norquest Blvd., in the Austintown Local School District, will close at the conclusion of the current school year after serving the students and families in the community for 58 years. A farewell celebration will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the building. The event is open to the public, past faculty, administration and alumni. Those who are interested in attending will have an opportunity to tour the building and reconnect with old acquaintances and memories of the school. The event is sponsored by the current staff and the Lloyd PTA. The district is consolidating four elementary buildings with the opening of Austintown Elementary School in September.
FASHIONS TO INCLUDE CANINE COMPANIONS: The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County will host its 29th annual fashion show, "Fashions for Compassion," from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Mahoning Country Club in Girard. The event will include a Chinese auction, lottery tree raffle, 50-50 raffle and mini Chinese auction. The show will feature dogs accompanying some of the models on the runway. CHS TO FEATURE CONCERT: As part of their spring tour, the Brigham Young University Idaho Symphony Band from Rexburg, Idaho, will perform 7 p.m. April 24 at Champion High School, 5976 Mahoning Ave. N.W. Opening the program will be the Champion High School Band, under the direction of Tom Brucoli. The concert is sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Youngstown Ohio Stake. Admission is free and open to the public. The ensemble travels on both domestic and international tours. The April tour will include Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. ANIMAL GROUP RECEIVES DONATION: Home Savings and Loan Office of Mahoning County recently made a $6,138 check presentation to the Animal Charity Humane Society in Boardman. The money was raised from a bake sale held in March to help the agency, which is a non-profit organization with a full service veterinary clinic and the only humane society in Mahoning County. The next clinic is 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
