Wildcat pitcher Amber Dietz, who had eight strikeouts after coming in the fifth inning, notched 14 strikeouts in the first game - throwing a one-hitter in Game 1's 9-0 victory at Sebring.
In Vienna, Maddie Williams hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to cap off a comeback win for Mathews over LeBoeuf (Pa.), 3-2. Mustang ace Cheyenne Eggens won the pitchers' duel with Bison ace Banta to improve to a 5-0 record as a starter.
In Youngstown, Fitch's Cali Mikovich amassed seven hits to power the Falcons to two wins over Cardinal Mooney, 16-5, and Boardman, 11-3. Against the Cardinals, Mikovich was a triple away from hitting for the cycle, and against the Spartans, she had four hits and two RBIs. Alana Callahan helped Mikovich in the win over the Spartans with three extra-base hits and four RBIs.
In baseball, Mineral Ridge freshman pitcher Jared Gherardi came in the third and pitched five scoreless innings to hold off Girard, 7-6. Mineral Ridge rallied from a 6-2 deficit with a five-run fourth inning, capped by Dan Ferguson, who had his second home run of the season - a two-run shot in the first inning, scoring on a one-out groundout by Collin Cameron at Girard.
At Sebring, the Trojans swept a non-conference doubleheader over Southington, winning 4-0 in Game 1, and 7-6 in Game 2. The Trojans (7-1) struck out 16 batters in Game 1, and they scored the winning run on a close play at the plate with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 2. Southington, which got two hits and two RBIs by Brendan Baugher in Game 2, fell to 3-3.
