Assorted ramblings from the world of entertainment:
The fourth annual Taste of Trumbull is scheduled Wednesday at McMemany's Banquet Center in Niles.
The event, organized by GFCW Ohio Warren Junior Women's League, not only is a showcase of some of the area's best restaurants, it serves as a fundraiser for LEAP (Life Enrichment Activities Program), which provides social, recreational and educational opportunities for mentally and physically challenged children in Trumbull County.
Businesses scheduled to participate include: Amen Corner, Aulizio's Catering, Buffalo Wild Wings, The Cake Boutique, Cookies To Go, Fifth Season Catering, Firebird's Wood Fired Grill, Ghossain's Gourmet Mediterranean Foods, Just Pizzelles, Lake Tavern, Little Damascus, McMenamy's Restaurant, The Ohio Inn, The Olive and The Grape, PMG Chocolatiers, Perfette's Sausage, Pita Delights, Sam's Club, Sunrise Inn, Tables of Temptation, TCakz Cupcakes & Cakes and Uncle Jim's Pepper Mustard.
Prizes will be awarded for best appetizers, beef, chicken, pasta, pork, seafood, sweet treats and vegetarian. This will be my third year as a judge at the event. Whenever people tell me I have the best job at the Tribune Chronicle, this is the kind of assignment they are talking about. It's a good time.
Attendees will get to vote for the People's Choice award and for Best Table Decor.
The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and will include live music by the Take II Band, a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle.
Tickets are $25 and can be ordered by calling 330-398-9986.
Auditions are scheduled later this month for paid extras to appear in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," which will be filmed in the Cleveland area in May and June.
Auditions are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 19 and 20 at Metro Campus Cuyahoga Community College, Building UTC/Room 229, 2415 Woodland Ave., Cleveland. Auditions are for adults ages 18 and older only. Those attending are asked to bring a pen to fill out an application and business attire is preferred. Photos will be taken at the auditions at no charge.
Chris Evans reprises his role as Captain America. According to the film's IMDB page, the cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Emily Van Camp and Robert Redford, although that doesn't necessarily mean that their scenes will be among those shot in greater Cleveland.
Arguably the biggest name in the craft brewing business will be making a video appearance at the Big Tap In Real Craft Beer Festival, which is set for April 20 at the Shepherd Event Center in Boardman.
Jim Koch, founder and brewmaster of Boston Beer Co. (maker of Sam Adams beers), will address the crowd via video, according to organizers.
More than 200 beers from domestic and international breweries will be available at the event, which is expected to draw more than 2,500 people. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Making Kids Count, and last year's event help the organization launch its diaper bank and tutoring programs in the Mahoning Valley.
Tickets are $48 for general admission and $27 for non-drinking/designated drivers. For more information, go to www.bigtapin.com.
