NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) - The Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen's Association has withdrawn its support for a planned racetrack in western Pennsylvania.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the group has sent a letter to the state Harness Racing Commission, which earlier this month granted an extension through May 31 for Endeka Entertainment to finance Valley View Downs near New Castle. Endeka officials say they're in talks with Penn National Gaming Inc., which may operate or buy part of the track.
But the horse owner's group says it no longer has faith that Endeka's plans will materialize.
The track must have an agreement with a horse owners' group to offer racing.
Endeka's attorney says the group continues to move forward with its plans to build the facility and meet state licensing requirements.
