Former Girard law director and public defender Anthony Louis Antonucci died Jan. 26 at the Hospice House as a result of a injuries suffered in an automobile accident that occurred Oct. 26, 2012, in Warren. He was 62.
Mayor James Melfi described Antonucci as "a character."
"He was the law director when I was the city's treasurer," Melfi said. "He was very easy to approach."
Melfi described Antonucci as being very helpful to him when he was trying to collect income tax revenues from employees of a Girard company that lived outside of the city.
"He was instrumental in helping me clarify the law," he said.
Safety Service Director Jerry Lambert was a city councilman when Antonucci served as the city's law director.
"He was a good lawyer and a good friend," Lambert said. "He was very knowledgeable of the law."
Lambert described Antonucci as having a quick wit and flowery stories.
Antonucci was born in Youngstown and graduated from Girard High School in 1968. He graduated from Youngstown State University and received his juris doctorate from Ohio Northern University.
In addition to his public positions, he was in private practice for more than 30 years, with offices in Girard and Warren.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, the former Heather Pratt, and two children, Joel Antonucci and Jillian Coccoli.
He was a member of Victory Christian Church in Youngstown where a memorial service was held Feb. 3.
