NILES - Charles M. Dillehay, 83, died at 8:52 a.m., Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the St. Joseph Health Center emergency room following an extended illness.
Charles was born in Marietta on Aug. 16, 1929, the son of Otis and Nellie Graham Dillehay and came to Niles many years ago.
He was employed at the U. S. Steel Co., McDonald Works and later was a truck driver for Central Paving Co. of Niles. He was member of St. Stephen Church and enjoyed his vegetable garden and helping his many friends with their projects, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and their activities.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol (Paul) Gavalec of Warren and Bernadette Dillehay of Cortland; two granddaughters, Carolyn Loveland of Warren and Victoria (Jim) Huber of Niles; four great-grandchildren, Michael Fairman, Gabrella Huber, Madison Huber and Soraeya Faith Loveland; and a sister, Frances Montgomery of Steubenville.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Irene Marie Banik, whom he married May 14, 1949, and who died on July 4, 2005; three brothers, Elmer, Dean and Arthur Dillehay; and a sister, Laurie Whetstone.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen Church. The Rev. Thomas Kraszewski will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
