NORTH JACKSON -- A Youngstown woman was arrested Saturday after she sat in the road preventing trucks from delivering fracking equipment to the Consol Energy drilling site.
Maria Montanez is part of Frackfree Mahoning Valley, which has been an outspoken critic of oil and natural gas activity in the area.
Montanez told WYTV 33 News, "I felt compelled to stop the trucks from entering here because this well has a faulty casing that was shoddily repaired and is going to contaminate my morning coffee and drinking water."
The Cadle Drill site on Blott Road is located in the Drinking Water Source Protection Area of the Meander Reservoir, according to Frackfree Mahoning Valley.
On March 1, 2013, Consol Energy released a statement that said during testing the top joint of the well casing failed and the situation was immediately remediated, and inspectors were satisfied. Consol officials said there were no environmental impacts from the incident.
The Meander Reservoir provides over 220,000 people in the Mahoning Valley with their drinking water.
