Joseph F. Szczurek 1922-2013

SOUTHINGTON - Joseph F. Szczurek, 90, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at home with his family at his side.

Joseph was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Chicago, the son of Leon and Mary Kathryn Ziemba Szczurek.

He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and then the Army Reserves. Following that, Joseph took a commission as a second lieutenant in the Ohio National Guard and retired as a major.

Joseph retired from Packard Electric Company in 1983. He was a member of the Southington American Legion and Marine Corps Legion. Joseph was a Boy Scouts of America volunteer and enjoyed traveling to various military bases.

Joseph leaves his loving family, his dear wife, Beulah M. Baughman Szczurek, whom he married Dec. 23, 1944; three sons, Michael J. (Carol) Szczurek, Richard J. Szczurek and David J. (Lenett) Szczurek, all of Southington; three daughters, Mary K. (Mark) Pawcio of Champion, Patricia A. (Bud) Szczurek of Newton Falls and Elizabeth M. (Randy) Raub of Waseca, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a daughter, Dr. Judy Szczurek Bourne; four brothers, Stanley, John, Frank and Bruno Szczurek; and a grandson, David Michael Szczurek.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sinchak and Sons Funeral Home.

A military honor guard service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, conducted by the American Legion Trumbull County Honor Guard Team.

Material contributions may be made to the Southington American Legion, the Marine Corps League, the Disabled American Veterans or the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
