Kids Fest returns at LaBrae
The fourth annual Kids Fest runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the LaBrae High School Cafeteria, 1001 N. Leavitt Road, Leavittsburg.
Activities include games, a bounce house, food, candy and a Chinese auction and basket raffle, including a chance to win an overnight stay for six at Kalahari in Sandusky. Jungle Terry will present an animal show at 10 a.m. (admission is $1), and a free magic show is scheduled at noon.
The cost is $1 per ticket or $25 for unlimited play for the entire family. Proceeds will go to River of Hope International, which provides educational support for the children of Ethiopia. The event also will include an Ethiopian coffee tasting and the sale of jewelry and artifacts from Ethiopia.
Animal Welfare League plans wine, chocolate event
''An Evening of Wine and Chocolates'' will raise money for the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.
The evening will include wine and chocolate tastings, hearty hors d'oeuvres and live entertainment by Doug and Pam DiPreta. All attendees will receive a souvenir wine glass.
The fundraiser runs from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Tiffany's Banquet Center, 601 Bedford Road S.E., Brookfield. Tickets are $35 per person and $60 per couple in advance, and $40 per person and $65 per couple at the door. For reservations or more information, call 330-394-3512.
YSU recital canceled
A guest recital tonight at Youngstown State University has been canceled.
Annette-Barbara Vogel, violin, and Sophie van der Westhuizen, piano, were scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. at Bliss Recital Hall.
The show was canceled due to a health issue with one of the performers, and there is a possibility it will be rescheduled later this year.
Pierogi making class offered
Polish Youngstown will offer a pierogi-making class from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church kitchen of St. Stephens of Hungary, 854 Wilson Ave., Youngstown.
Tad Siembida will share the secrets of making the dumplings and fillings learned from her mother and grandmother. Students should bring a take-home container and an apron and be prepared to get their hands in the dough. Each participant will take home recipes, tips and at least one dozen ready-to-serve pierogis.

Food network host speaks at PlayhouseSquare
Cookbook author and television host Ina Garten will speak Tuesday at the State Theatre, PlayhouseSquare, 1515 Euclid Ave., Cleveland.
Garten has written eight cookbooks and is seen on the Food Network. She will be interviewed on stage by Cleveland-based food writer Michael Ruhlman.

Beatles celebration set for Akron
The Rubber City Beatlesfest is scheduled Saturday at the Akron Civic Theatre, 182 S. Main St., Akron.
Festivities start at 6:45 p.m. with vendors selling photos, vinyl albums, Beatles memorabilia and '60s memorabilia. A concert starting at 8 p.m. will feature the tribute bands The ReBeats, Hard Days Night and Revolution Pie.
Tickets are $25 reserved and $15 general admission and are available through Ticketmaster.
