WARREN - Walter Richard "Dick" Boyer, 87, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Cortland, the son of John David Boyer Sr. and Edna Beatrice Todd Boyer.
He was employed by Copperweld Steel for 42 years as a structural steel fitter in the maintenance department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during World War II as a waist gunner on a B17 airplane.
He was a member of Champion Christian Church, where he was very active serving as a lifetime deacon of the church and twice chairman of the board. Dick was a 60-year member of the Carroll F. Clapp Lodge 655 F & AM of Warren, and also an OES past patron. He enjoyed fishing, reading and baking brownies.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Dianne) Boyer of Oakland, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Carol (Chris) Anson-Margrave of Champion; step-son, James L. (Roberta) Anson of Mebane, N.C.; grandchildren, Matthew, Scott, Brett Boyer, Lisa Anson Day, Steven Anson, Alexis Holland Szudarek and Andrew Holland, and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ruth Jane Millikin, who passed away July 1, 1976; second wife, Audrey Horton Anson, who passed away Jan. 27, 1997; a daughter, Janice Ann Boyer; a stepson, Robert Anson; a sister, Alice Boyer; and brothers, John David Boyer Jr. and Thurlow Lewis Todd Boyer.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Champion Christian Church, where the Rev. Ken E. Hopkins Jr. will officiate. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Clapp Lodge 655 F & AM will hold a service 5:45 p.m. Sunday at funeral home. Interment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park.
