High school basketball tournament roundup

CARDINAL MOONEY 66, WEST BRANCH 26: BOARDMAN - Cardinal Mooney moves on in the tournament as it beat West Branch with ease.

Mooney led 32-20 at the half and held West Branch to six second half points.

Mark Handel led Mooney with 14 points and Doug Caputo chipped in with 12. Kip DeShields scored nine for West Branch.

Mooney will face Poland in the Division II district semifinals. The game will be played on Monday at Boardman High School. Tipoff begins at 7 p.m.

SPRINGFIELD 42, SOUTH RANGE 41: SALEM - Springfield edged South Range to move on in the tournament.

Mark Schuler scored 13 and Eoghan Bees tallied 13 for Springfield. Jake Arsuffi led South Range with 14.

Springfield will go on to face St. Thomas Aquinas in a Division III district semifinal. The game will be played Tuesday at Salem High School. Tipoff begins at 5:30 p.m.

POLAND 69, CRESTWOOD 38: BOARDMAN -Poland was difficult to stop from 3-point range in the win against Crestwood.

Poland led from the beginning, taking an 18-7 advantage after the first quarter. The Bulldogs hit a total of 14 3-pointers on the night.

Jacob Wolfe scored 13 points for Poland and Kyle Dixon netted 11. Anthony Stuber led Crestwood with seven points.

Poland will face Cardinal Mooney in the Division II district semifinals. The game will be played on Monday at Boardman High School. Tipoff begins at 7 p.m.
