LIBERTY - Police are still waiting to talk to a man who was shot and injured early Sunday morning outside a Belmont Avenue club.

Capt. Toby Melero, who is heading up the investigation into the shooting of Quentin Boone, 18, of Elm Street in Struthers, said Tuesday that investigators have not been able to speak to him because of a wound in the throat.

Boone was shot about 4:30 a.m. Sunday outside Club Remix, 3200 Belmont Ave. He is expected to recover, police said.

Melero said police are beginning to learn why shots were fired, though he declined to offer much detail. Police have also spoken to Boone's family and are checking out the street names of possible suspects with Youngs-town police, he said.

Boone is breathing through a tube but once the tube is taken out and he can talk, Melero said he expects to learn more from Boone.

''Our victim being able to speak is really all I need,'' Melero said.

When police arrived and found Boone, they also found several spent shell casings, and a nearby car was also damaged by gunfire.

There were several patrons at the club at the time for an after-hours party, but Melero said they have not been cooperating with police.

Melero said investigators do not yet know if Boone was at the party or if he was visiting someone in the parking lot when he was shot.

The club owner had told police he had rented out the club to a Youngstown man and he gave investigators the names of the man and of some of the guests.
