CANTON - Canfield's 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams and Ursuline's John Tomko in the 500 freestyle will swim in the Division II state swim meet championship races at the C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Canfield's foursome of Connor Brady, Michael Cardone, Daniel Bogan and Nicholas Montalto have the fourth fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay (1:28.16) and sixth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:16.28) after Thursday's Division II state preliminaries.
The top eight times in each event advance to tonight's championship races, starting at 5 p.m. Those finishing nine through 16 in each event swim in tonight's consolation events.
Tomko swam 1:44.89 in the 200 freestyle. He swam the 11th fastest time in the 500 freestyle (4:48.21).
Hubbard's Joey Spurio is ninth in the 100 butterfly (52.83). Wyatt Henderson of Baltimore Liberty Union took eighth (52.89).
Other swimmers in tonight's consolation events are: Moltalto, 11th, 100 freestyle (48.63) and Brady, 12th, 100 backstroke (54.47).
Those swimmers who did not make it to tonight's events are: Howland's Brandon Sekanick, 24th, 100 breaststroke (1:02.90); Moltalto, 18th, 50 freestyle (22.38); Bogan, 22nd, 100 freestyle (49.31) and 21st, 200 freestyle (1:49.13); and Cardinal Mooney's Taylor Tolfi took 20th in the 100 butterfly (1:00.27) in the Division II girls preliminaries.
