AKRON -- Officials at the Akron-Canton Airport say the proposed merger between American Airlines and US Airways could mean potential growth for the facility.
The two airlines announced an $11 billion merger Thursday that will turn American into the world's biggest airline.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that US Airways operates nine nonstop flights a day out of Akron-Canton - five to Charlotte, N.C., three to Philadelphia and one to Washington, D.C.
US Airways spokeswoman Kristie Van Auken says American hasn't flown out of the Akron-Canton airport for many years, which she said could be ``a great opportunity'' for the carrier.
The director of the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport told the newspaper that the merger should have little to no impact on airport operations there.
