Northeast Ohio gas prices continued to climb for the fifth consecutive week. Tuesday's average, $3.622 per gallon, is eight cents higher than a week ago.
Since mid-January the national price at the pump has been propelled higher by somewhat more expensive crude oil, but more notably by regional refinery issues and the approaching switch over to summer-blend gasoline. AAA motorists club expects increases to the national average to slow as temporary production concerns are addressed, peaking this spring at a lower price than in 2011.
Today's national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.60. Average price in Niles was reported at $3.564 per gallon of regular unleaded.
