CHAMPION - Joan C. "Joanie," "Joanster" Saltzmann, 73, went to be with the Lord, at 4:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
She was born March 23, 1939, in Champion, the daughter of the late James and Mabel Shafer Saltzmann.
Joan was a 1957 graduate of Champion High School and a 1966 graduate of Kent State University.
She retired in 1991 as a school teacher for the Maplewood School District at Maplewood East after 31 years of service.
Joan was a member of Wildare United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was also a member of the United Methodist Woman's Group.
She enjoyed spending her time with her great-nieces and nephews. She enjoyed reading, puzzles and watching tennis, and Joan was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Josie Saltzmann of Champion; two nieces, Kimberly (Timothy) Fenstermaker of Cortland and Tracy McElravy of Warren; seven great-nieces and nephews, Amanda, Kaitlynn, Christopher and Jacob Fenstermaker, all of Cortland, Justin (Michelle) Kaszowski of Howland, and Matthew and Chase McElravy, both of Warren; and one great-great-nephew, Joseph Kaszowski of Howland.
Other than her parents, Joan was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth J., Thomas and Robert Saltzmann.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wildare United Methodist Church where Pastor Tal Lewis will celebrate Joan's life.
Family and friends may visit from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Burial will be in Champion Township Cemetery.
